2020.09.26 23:50 TripodsSuckMan I fucking hate sniper tf2 so fucking much holy fucking macaroni shit

God I fucking hate sniper tf2 so fucking much holy shit. Holy shit, every commercial he's in, every camera, every gif, every jpeg, he has this painfully vacant, stupid as shit, fuckass look on his stupid fucking scope. Absolutely no part of his ugly as sin piece of shit .77mm scope is endearing. Their stupid fucking glasses? Who the hell aims with fucking glasses. Their dumb flaily fucking machetes? Their shitty, stupid as fuck bastard instakill from across the map? The three thousand percent unnecessary dumbass shitass fucking piss jars that no videogame character has EVER FUCKING HAD IN tHE HISTORY OF GOD'S GREEN FUCKING EARTH? God, I hate him. I hate him so much. So FUCKING much. Every time I see an AWP for wannabe CS:GO players or a huntsman or a shitty goddamn scope light on the wall, it ignites my primal rage response and I'm overcome by the need to punt those shitty little homunculuses into the fucking sun. Fuck them. Fuck them fuck them fuck them fuck them fuck them. You look like Gaben Newell himself summoned a patronus. Their dumb fucking instakill mechanic makes their whole class mechanic look like a fucking absolute joke for people unable to use their auditory sensors. I hate their dumb fucking bows and their stupid, empty sniper rifle reskins and their over-the-top goofy ass taunts. Any photo of a sniper taunting invokes all the wrath and fury of a spoiled child having a meltdown over a chocolate bar in a walmart checkout line. And I know its irrational. That's the worst part. I know they're just a shitty fucking class in a stupid fucking game, I know it doesn't matter, I know I shouldn't care. But that's part of the problem. The part where no matter the might and fury of my hatred, the locus of my homicidal intent is alltogether inconsequential. I find myself laying awake in the dark in the early hours of the morning consumed by the spirit of Wrath itself, all the force and might of a flaming hurricane directed at a bottle of piss in a ditch by the highway. The absurdity of it all burns me to my core. What better things could this energy be directed towards? And yet my disdain for this stupid, useless, insubstantial failure of a fucking class in tf2 utterly eclipses the intrigue of all other pursuits. I hate them. I hate them on a level of my mind reserved for the worst of the world's array of sinners, and I can't even begin to justify it. Shitstick the sniper rifler is, for all intents and purposes, the responsible corpse of all of humanity's saccharine pretenses- every condescending, passive-aggressive statement of meaningless upper middle class suburban drama distilled into a single, hateable form. The fucking. Fuck. I have no words. There is no cuss or epithet in any language that can encapsulate the height of the emotions I am experiencing. God, I hate them so much. I hate them so, so fucking much. I want to light their ugly little dumpster bodies on fire. I want to graphically beat them to death with their own stupid fucking bazaar bargains. I want to punch them to death. You know that weird feeling you get, when you see a picture of something so cute you find yourself overcome with the bizarre, inexplicable urge to squeeze it? It's EXACTLY like that, except instead of cuteness it's disgust. The wordless knowledge that his existence is evidence of all the failures of mankind. I find myself possessed by the will of a Holy Angel gone rogue with the belief that God has made a mistake, and I alone must correct it. This is the trial by which Samael himself fell from grace. This wild, meaningless rage. A thousand blades of shining steel cast with inhuman force in the direction of a plastic grocery bag floating on a breeze. What horrors must I have committed in a past life to be plagued by this torment now? I must Unmake this god-forsaken fucking piece of shit as an excuse for being a class in a videogame.

2020.09.26 22:32 500scnds [Table] r/MemeEconomy — We are the creators of Feels Good Man, a Sundance Winning documentary on Pepe the Frog and Pepe’s creator Matt Furie, Ask Us Anything.

Source
Because three people are answering, their signatures have been left in (AJ, GA, MF).
Questions Answers
At what point do you consider the initial conception of a character to become irrelevant compared to their current perception? That's a really tough question to answer. I think part of the reason we wanted to make this film was to, in a sense, canonize Pepe. You have to keep in mind that when Matt created Boys Club and it started to get popular, it was just a tiny little indie comic. So when it switched over to the internet and started becoming a popular meme, it pretty quickly became divorced from the original character. And Matt was just a by-standard to all that. Seeing it morph and change over time.
When we see SpongeBob memes with Hitler moustaches or whatever, we understand that this is a derivation of the original. And that's because Nickelodeon has spent millions upon millions of dollars building up that character and his brand. Or like for me (Giorgio) growing up, you'd always see bumper stickers of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbs pissing on a Ford logo or a Chevy logo or whatever. But there was never any question looking at those bumper stickers that what I was looking at wasn't Bill Waterson's opinion on domestic cars and trucks. I knew it was a bootleg. And I kept those two narratives separate in my head.
With Pepe, Matt didn't have that luxury. He's just a single indie artist who created an image that for some reason really resonated with a TON of people. I'm not sure if there's any reliable data on it. But I would say that Pepe is arguably one of the most popular cartoon images in the world. And it's all happened organically, simply based on the power of Matt's artistic abilities.
I don't think that Matt (or us, for that matter) is under the delusion that Pepe will ever be "taken back." Pepe has grown far bigger than anyone could've imagined. But what we do know is that we made a film that tells an important and relevant story about a meme that a lot of people around the world care about.
-Giorgio
Matt, did you consider your artwork political before Pepe took off? And did Pepe’s reappropriation to political symbol change the way you approached your art, now knowing it could be changed without your consent or control? In general, I have two main artistic endeavors: fine art and comics. In my “fine art”, I reflect on themes of ecology, family, animal rights, and power violence….to name a few. I consider it more philosophical than political. In my comics, particularly “boy’s club” (the origin of Pepe), I celebrate and lampoon dumb-ass stuff like television, smoking pot, barfing, eating pizza and dumb-ass commercials from my childhood.
I believe that reality is different for everyone- it’s based on what one chooses to focus on. I cannot control what others perceive, but I can control what I consume (spend, eat, watch, read, and scroll)and put out into the world (art). I think that depression, whether biological or psychological, can be remedied by widening your perspective beyond your immediate self/culture. There’s a big amazing imperfect beautiful world out there. I choose to make art to go beyond language and express my feelings through characters, critters and spirals.-MF
Where do you see Pepe in 5 years? 10? I think if there's any lesson to be learned from the past 10 years of Pepe online, it's that none of this is predictable. When we were making this film, we were struggling to figure out how we would end the film.
Then, one morning, we awoke to our phones being inundated with messages about Pepe being used as an icon for a peaceful protest moment in Hong Kong against an authoritarian regime. Definitely weren't expecting that.
We quickly mobilized and reached out to a very talented journalist on the ground in Hong Kong who filmed a "holding hands across Hong Kong" peace protest where thousands of people linked hands, holding bootleg Pepe dolls. It was a very moving experience to receive that footage and start watching.
We were overwhelmed with messages from protestors from Hong Kong. About their deep connection to Pepe. That he was a symbol of their struggle. Of their sadness about the current state of affairs. But that he was a symbol of love. And that they wanted to make Pepe's "frown turn into a smile."
And then there's Pepe on twitch. Which is also wild! So...who knows!?
/Giorgio
What do you feel is the best way to prevent icons from being used as hate symbols? There isn’t really a way to prevent an icon from becoming a hate symbol.
Our culture moves in strange ways. I think the best we can do is be critically engaged with cultural discourse and be honest about what people’s true intentions are. There isn’t one interpretation of Pepe the Frog or the Swastika or the Peace Sign or the McDonald’s Logo or the American Flag. This movie is about media literacy more than anything else. What we can do is recognize when a symbol is weaponized and used for antisocial motivations and call it out. Matt has a right to fight against Pepe being used for propaganda, profit and extremism. / AJ
the below is a reply to the above question
To not care and ignore it. Stop being such a pearl clutcher. Caring about the society you live in isn't pearl clutching - - it's being an engaged citizen.
Nothing will get better if we don't honestly engage with reality and work to change it.
/ AJ
the below is a reply to the above
The pearl clutchers on the right who believed DnD and Harry Potter was causing people to become satanists would have said the exact same thing. Why do you believe they were wrong but you are right? Two things can both be true. It can be the case that people posted racist pepes just as jokes. In an earnestly ironic way. It is also true that actual racists then took those memes and used them for their own purposes.
Bad-faith activists with bad intentions saw how Pepe was being used, and who was using it, and coopted the symbol as a recruiting tool. The KKK and neonazi groups have long used pop culture icons to try and ingratiate themselves with the main stream. This is literally a tactic that David Duke openly developed and advocated in the 80s. And it's precisely why Richard Spencer used Pepe as the icon for his podcast. And why the Boogaloo bois use Pepe patches on their sleeves.
Far-right movements have always tried to recruit dejected, impressionable, angry, young white men, by coopting the relevant pop cultural artifacts of the time. And Pepe was a uniquely perfect tool for them. It was similarly true of punk rock in the 80s. Neo nazi's coopted a leftist, anti-authoritarian, organic movement, and retooled the message for their own use. This is nothing new. Pepe is just the most recent iteration.
To the larger question, though, "Is Pepe a racist symbol?" No. And Matt would agree. As you'll see in the film. Neither Matt nor us, the filmmakers, are doing any "pearl clutching." Part of the issue here is that professional racists used the media, who took the story (mostly unquestioningly) and ran with it, doing all the difficult work of disseminating their message. We're simply trying to give this story some much needed context and honesty.
Also, side note: fascism is real. Satanism is not.
-GA
the below is a reply to the above
Satanism isn't real? You don't believe there are people who are satanists? What an absurd statement. Was Anton LaVey not a real person? What do you mean by "Satanism isn't real"? When you speak to Satan, let us know. We'd love to interview him.
Also, one of our editors edited a great film you might like called "Hail Satan!"
the below is a reply to the above
Whether or not Satan exists has no bearing on whether or not the belief system or ideology of Satanism exists. So again, why is one pearl clutching and the other isn't? Because to people like me, they appear exactly the same. Again, Fascism is real. And kills people. IRL. Satanism, as an ideology, might be real. But the dangers of the philosophy are wholly imagined.
the below is a reply to the above
I agree with you, but I would also extend this to modern day fascism in the US. It's the left's modern-day satanic panic. What you're doing is looking at a few morons on the cringe fringe and painting their followings as being way bigger than they are. It's like when people still opine about the KKK when there's only a few thousand members left. These people are irrelevant, and by painting them as some menacing threat you're giving them more power than they deserve. Have some fascists done shitty things recently? Sure. Were there satanists in the 1980s who were doing shitty things? Probably. But that doesn't mean either one posses the threat to society their opponents believe they do. Just ignore them if you want them to lose their power. Why is that so hard to do? Fascism is a joke, until it's not. My father grew up under Mussolini's regime. He's sufficiently worried about the dangers today. He's been a pretty reliable person in my life, so I'm going to trust him on that perspective.
A thought exercise for you might be, perhaps consider the possibility that it's easier for you to ignore these issues, because you're not particularly under personal threat. But that is not the case for lots of other people. There are literal kids in cages in the border. There is an actual white nationalist working in the white house. Our environmental policy is being rapidly unwound by know-nothing anti-science zealots. The abysmal response to COVID has been completely consistent with a deeply inept and corrupt government cravenly self-interested in corruption and their own self-preservation. The most recent COVID bail out package was yet another massive gift for the rich and for corporations. All of this has to do with "ignoring fascism."
/ Giorgio
the below is a reply to the above
They were there under Obama as well. Does that make Obama a fascist? Again with the "muh fascism" hyperbole. Do you hear yourself? You sound like the tea party under Obama calling him a communist. What evidence do you have for any of this? You're doing exactly what the tea party did under Obama only turned up to 11. You just can't see it because it's your bubble this time. In twenty years, we're going to look back at this moment and laugh at people like you In the same way we look back at fundamentalist Christians in the 19850s or anti-communist in the 1950s. Have you ever asked questioned the fascist Boogeyman you believe? What if it turns out that maybe you're being a bit hyperbolic with this stuff and you blew things way out of proportion? What if your documentary ends up being pointed and laughed at as an example of a moral panic we all lived through? I'm not sure this a productive conversation any longer. I believe the administration's response to COVID should make it overwhelmingly clear to anyone curious about who is being hyperbolic and who is engaging with reality. Be well my dear friend. /Giorgio
Why did you decide to make a movie about a meme? Pepe is a very special meme. It’s been around of 10 years which is an eternity for anything online. It has even outlasted several of the websites it was popular on. Myspace being the primary example. So while Feels Good Man, really focuses on Pepe as a character — we obviously get into “memetics” as larger topic.
I think the change caused by social media is the most important story of our generation and Memes are a significant way the human experience is communicated online.
In terms of politics, memes are a way in which supporters of a candidate can feel like they are a contributing to a movement. Memes can be used as way to build coalitions and maintain an engagement. They also allow you to share facts and analysis in a way that is contagious, funny and thought provoking. This is obviously and good and bad thing. / AJ
Matt, you tried to kill Pepe but that didn't seem to go as planned, are you now glad that he didn't stay dead? Arthur and Giorgio- what was the craziest story involving pepe that you came across while doing this? Hi LuckCosmos
In the same way Wile E. Coyote can run off a cliff over and over or be flattened by a train and return unscathed, Pepe can return to form. Matt never thought that “death of Pepe comic” was going to be a thing people noticed or paid attention to. It was a six panel comic done during a moment when he was frustrated and wanted the whole Pepe controversy to go away.
——
We filmed an interview with an occultist named John Micheal Greer, in the middle of the night, in a historic library that Edgar Allan Poe used to write in. At first we thought the interview was going to be quirky but it actually got very deep. At various times during the conversation I got goosebumps. That conversation had it’s own gravitational pull.
This film took us on a pretty wild global scavenger hunt (some of which didn’t even make the final cut).
The craziest thing honestly, was how positive the film-making experience was. This film was made by a group of friends and artists. We worked really hard on it and that hard work paid off, both in terms of making a good film and strengthening our friendships
/AJ
Do you see “Meme Magick” playing a role in the success of Pepe? If so, what do you think meme magick is? When this project started I didn’t give Meme Magick much credence. I knew about the numerology of 4chan posts and the quasi-religious memes 4channers made.
This is a film about a stoned cartoon frog but it’s also about the cultural imagination. It’s about our shared zeitgeist. So we decided to include a discussion of Meme Magick as one of the many ways people ascribe meaning to symbols.
In Feels Good Man we interviewed Susan Blackmore who wrote the text book on memetics and we also talked to an occultist named John Micheal Greer. His definition of magic echos that of Dion Fortune: “Magic the art of causing changes to take place in consciousness in accordance with will.” He talks about Pepe both as sigil and as an omen. I tend to agree with him.
If memes like the Cross or the Virgin Mary can be considered Magick - Why can’t Pepe? /AJ
1. Do you know who posted the original Pepe comic to 4chan back in the day? 2. What do you think is the reason that the Pepe illustration is so popular? Like in an artistic sense. Is it the big eyes? Hi Thanks for this.
Re 1: Nope. We have no idea who first posted it to 4chan. Matt posted the “Feels Good Man” page from Boy’s Club Issue 2 on his Myspace page. From there Pepe spread as a reaction image to a variety of message boards…. Shroomery. http://BodyBuilding.com and 4chan.
Re 2: While making the film we asked a version of this question to everyone we talked to. It’s not a question that has a really definitive answer. My feeling is that Pepe is innately nostalgic. He feels like a muppet or toy from your childhood. I also think frogs carry some sort of weight for people. Even in nature, frogs appear funny, cute, off-putting and vulnerable at the same time. /AJ
What are your thoughts on twitch taking this image and transforming it in so many ways and basically creating a language out of pepes and peepos? Do you think its a good use of the image of pepe the frog? The Twitch stuff is wild. I'm personally fascinated by linguistics and how memes/emojis have developed into incredibly sophisticated forms of communication. I've also had to learn up on a completely new lexicon, dialoguing with people on social media now about this film. It's both thrilling and terrifying...but ultimately pretty incredible. / Giorgio
One of my dreams is to get into documentary work, either in film or podcasting. What's your biggest advice for someone who wants to be a documentarian? Also, I just want to thank you for making this film. Media literacy is something I care deeply about, and it looks like you guys have made a powerful tool for teaching it. I'm bummed I never got to see it in theaters (I was gonna volunteer at the Wisconsin Film Festival), but still hyped to see it for the first time in September! Thanks so much. We're really bummed about all the festival cancellations too.
As for advice on dreams of getting into documentary work.....Just do it!
Both me and Arthur are self-taught. We both came from creative backgrounds. But honestly the biggest hurdle is often overcoming your own insecurities and trusting in yourself and in the process.
Also, write a lot. It seems counter intuitive. Some people make documentaries to avoid writing a script. Which is understandable. Because writing a script is really hard. But the truth is, making a great documentary involves writing a ton. Both writing down your own ideas. But also writing paper edits based on the voices you've captured.
And you're constantly re-writing throughout the process. Challenging your own thesis/ideas as you collect more footage and more stories. Don't expect the final narrative to resemble your initial intentions. And just enjoy the ride. And be open to adapting the story in your head with the story unfolding in front of your camera (or microphone). Don't try and force it if it's not on the screen. / GA+AJ
Matt’s art is so good I agree. I was a fan of Boy's Club well before this film. Matt is releasing a coffee table book this fall called Mind Viscosity. It showcases his full wild Furie-ness in all its glory: https://www.fantagraphics.com/mindviscosity/
If you only know Matt's comics you should check out his fine art as well. /AJ
What community do you think makes the best Pepe memes? Also, what was the best Pepe meme you guys came across while doing research? My favorite Pepe meme creator is Peekaso. His animated gifs are pretty next level. You can find them on a variety of gif sites.
While doing research, The rare pepe that made me laugh the hardest was a version of the “young rock” meme redrawn as Pepe. I was eating a sandwich and had to do a spit take.
I also think Joe Bennet’s #savepepe animation is very touching. https://vimeo.com/188898661
/AJ
What was the most unexpected part about making this film? Honestly, getting into Sundance and winning an award. It's admittedly a really weird story to explain to someone with no context for any of it. So to be accepted to the biggest film festival in the country was a pretty incredible. And then to win an award was even more wild. We walked into the awards ceremony fully committed to the idea that we would win nothing and were just there for canapé and cocktails. /Giorgio
What are the best or weirdest bits you had to cut out of the documentary (didn't flow, couldn't get rights, etc...)? In being the subject of the documentary, what's something you ended up changing your mind about regarding the whole affair? The weirdest bits? Hmm. In our rough cut, we had a broader discussion of memetics as defined by Richard Dawkins in 1976. That got cut for time but wasn’t necessarily “weird.”
We cut some discussions with various Pepe Meme makers. The weirdest of these scenes we are going to release as an outtake soon. I don’t want to spoil it here. It was one of our favorite moments and it was a bummer to cut it. “Kill your darlings…” as they say.
We talked to a lot of great talking heads as well. We had an amazing discussion with the graphic designer Steven Heller who wrote a book called “Iron Fists: Branding the 20th-century Totalitarian State.” That didn’t make the cut but will be released as a stand alone short. He’s a real American treasure. /AJ
Matt - Despite the general negativity surround Pepe, do you think there is a chance people’s perception of him as an alt right character will change? Arthur and Giorgio - What about the film do you feel helps promote this change in perception? Legit can’t wait to see it hope you guys have nothing but success! 1. As a white male living in this culture, I have to take responsibility for my own white supremacy. Perhaps the lesson here is to confront my own cultural programming and upbringing and help to bring awareness to my friends and family. I believe that there is an awareness beyond our physical and mental selves that is pure love, pure loving awareness, and that everyone can tap into it. If we don’t do it this time around, maybe next time. We are all just extensions of our parents, our grandparents, and on and on forever. The fact that Pepe is a stoned frog that likes to chill may be able to help. It’s good not to freak out. It helps others remain calm. -MF
2. I think all we can hope for is that by telling the story, people understand the context more fully. The power of documentary filmmaking is the ability to build empathy for people and places and experiences not their own. The film also has a TON of rad animations of Pepe, Landwolf, Andy, and Brett. I think people are going to be pretty psyched to see. Anyway, I think once you understand someone's story, it becomes more difficult to ignore it. That's true of everything. So I guess our hope is that maybe people be kinder and more patient with one another. This shit is hard man. / Giorgio
I met you back at the Portland Indie Comics Fest, Matt! Just wanted to say that it was super cool to meet you back then and am excited to watch this documentary! Is there anything you guys are most excited to share with this new docu? Wasssup! I’m excited for people to see the cool animations and the insane story- also my suit I bought at Men’s Wearhouse looks rad on the big screen- I love the way I look. Unfortunately I left it at the JFK terminal. /MF
In terms of securing rights for showing images etc..., I imagine it's easy to get Furie's cooperation, but was it ironically difficult or expensive to show any Pepe-derived stuff in the documentary? Good question Cory. Making this film was a totally unique process. We licensed Pepe from Matt. Then we acquired the additional footage and memes in a variety of ways. I think we downloaded something like 32 TBs of Pepe videos and memes.
Some of our footage we paid for but most of it fell under fair use. Our fair use attorney Katy was a huge part of our collaborative process. /AJ
the below is a reply to the above
What was the weirdest fair use issue you came across that Katy helped you unravel? Were there any that surprised you either in the "I can't believe that's fair use" or "I can't believe that's NOT fair use" scenarios? Shania. Twain.
You'll have to watch the film to understand /AJ
the below is another reply to the original question
Is Matt particularly open to licensing Pepe to outsiders? I imagine he's pretty wary given the circumstances, but it'd be nice to see a Non-racist Pepe Ice Cream Truck. Matt trusted us - so he licensed Pepe to us. That said, he recognized that the film wasn't a puff piece. Everyone wanted the film to hold up on its own artistic merits. Furie never gave us guidelines of what to include or not include in the edit. The journalism and cultural critique contained within the film are the work of the filmmakers.
I have no idea about a ice cream truck. I can attest that Matt does love ice cream very much. I've seen him seen many hot fudge sundaes. /AJ
How do you think art has changed in the world of the internet, now that people can copy/mistitle or give content out of context? What can be done to stop the spread of misinformation? I believe that our true power comes from our ability to be with eachother and to listen to one another. Having the world of the internet in our pocket, always “on”, gives us this false sense that we are more connected. I get the feeling that we are actually more divided. Our attention is divided. Our ability to “wonder” about things is gone (just google it!) Art for me is about legacy, creating something bigger than yourself that can speak to the human/animal/plant/mineral condition. That will always be the same. Art is a place we can visit, we can make it or just experience it. It should be therapeutic.
Take a break from the internet, take a walk, go for a swim, talk to your pastor. /MF
Hi everyone! I have 3 questions/comments: 1- Is the documentary going to be licensed for more regions? I tried getting it through Vimeo, but my country wasn't on the licensed list. I'm from Brazil. Didn't try on Apple yet, though. 2- Have you guys seen Jordan Peterson's videos/comments about Pepe? He's done a symbolic/metaphysical analysis with his friend Jonathan Pageau, and it's actually pretty interesting. Look it up on YouTube. 3- Matt, I hope you're not sad about the whole Pepe situation anymore, looking back now. It's a fun character, nothing more than that. We know how the Internet is (trolling/joking/sarcasm), and how the media reacts to things (anything for clicks ands ads). I know it's been a rough journey for you, but I don't think Pepe represents anything bad, and I don't really feel like people actually stole him from you. In the end, you should be proud for creating something popular that so many people enjoyed! Thank you for your work! Thanks a lot for your time! 1- I’m not sure about Brazil yet. We have different arrangements with different distributors in different countries. But I don't think we have anything currently planned for Brazil.
Film distribution is a dark art. Our hope is that plays everywhere, but film distribution is unfortunately not always in the artist's control.
Certainly there are parallels with Bolsonaro and what is happening in the U.S.
/AJ
2- I have watched it. It’s the one where he is wearing a frog head right? People love Jordan Peterson. Maybe it’s because he sounds like Kermit. I’m sure JP would be morally appalled by the messy state of Pepe’s bedroom. “Clean up your room Pepe!” / AJ
3- Thanks man! - MF
Thanks for the questions.- AJ
Why doesn't Matt sell Pepe (or other) shirts on his website? I would really like one, but I'd like to endorse the original artist. There are shirts available, provided by vandals and con artists. I feel like a good amount of money could be made selling Pepe merch. Thank you! We will have that up on our website soon actually! Thank you for asking. We have a poster for sale right now too. www.feelsgoodmanfilm.com
the below is a reply to the above
On the movie website? Or Matt Furie's website? I'll check out the poster. We'll be selling film related t-shirts but will feature Pepe prominently
the below is a reply to the above
I'll keep an eye out! I also wanted to add that the movie looks very promising and I've heard nothing but critical praise so far. You should feel very proud and I hope you get all the recognition you deserve! Thank you so much for saying that! much appreciated. The film is out today!
How does it feel to be in the group with all the famous people who saw their art recouped by reactionaries and fascists, you are in the same category as the wachowskys, Carpenter, Palahniuk and also Fincher, all country music, the anti globalization movement, etc The biggest and most challenging part of being a human is to overcome this idea of “us vs. them” and to find the best way to approach a situation. I try and see the big picture, or at least the grey area between the black and white. When Pepe was first added to the “hate symbol” database, my initial reaction was to say that it’s just a phase and it will change. I’m not sure if it’s locked in to our American culture’s collective conscience yet, but it is bigger than just our American culture….it’s a global phenomenon. How do we overcome division? How do we make sense of duality? It’s a personal journey that begins with ourselves and our creativity. Pepe is my baby and I want to take care of him and treat him with love and kindness, especially now that he is an angel. /MF
Hey guys! Has anyone read the comic, Megg and Mogg by Simon Hanselmann? I've always considered it a female Boys Club, and I wanted to get your takes on it if you've read it. Cheers. I love MegaHex. I think Simon is super talented and love how popular their comics are.
It should be noted that Brett in Boy's Club is a fun-loving gender fluid blue creature who loves listening to Shania Twain and dancing in his undies. xoAJ
Question for Matt, Now that you have this film about to be released, do you think there will ever be a wide release of Duck and Chimpanzee's rock and roll summer? Haha, that’s a deep cut. “I would love to make love to those chimpanzees.” Who is this by the way? /MF
the below is a reply to the above
That movie holds a special place in my heart. This is BH btw. <3
Is it called “Feels Good Man” or “Feels Good, Man”? They’re not the same thing, after all. Is it "Encino Man"? or is it "Encino, Man"?
We say it with the comma's memory implied. But for graphic purposes, and to stay true to the comic, it's "Feels Good Man." / Giorgio
What’s is the First first drawing Of fells good man ever? Boy's Club issue #2 is the first appearance of Pepe saying "Feels Good Man." Matt posted a page from that comic onto his personal myspace page. The scanning and uploading that page is our film's inciting incident. It's a very silly moment to have as an inciting for a feature film. But we treat it with a tongue-in-cheek seriousness it deserves. xoAJ
Did you think Pepe would become as popular as it is? Virality can't be predicted. Life is a wild ride. /AJ
Where will I be able to watch Feels Good Man? It's currently available for pre-sale on Apple TV and Vimeo. Link in the op. Come Sept 4th, it will be available on several other platforms, including VUDU, Fandango on Demand, Alamo on Demand, and a few others. We'll have it all up on a link tree on our website. www.feelsgoodmanfilm.com
Where/how can I watch the film in the UK? Big announcements coming soon. Suffice it to say, it will be very available sometime in the fall. ;)
What inspired you to make Pepe? In the early 2000s, before youtube, Facebook, internet memes, etc. there was a site called http://paperrad.org. It was a wall of psychedelic-child-like visual creativity full of animated GIFs and 80s trash culture. It also featured home-baked comics that seemed to really be speaking with a kind-of family humor vibe- comics about inside jokes you would have with your closest friends. The style was raw and unpolished. I was really inspired by the comics on that site- especially “Alfe” by Ben Jones. Pepe even looks like “Horace” from those comics. I was also inspired by Ren and Stimpy, Beavis and Butthead, The Far Side, Jim Woodring’s “Frank” comics and the way he draws frogs, Mat Brinkman from Fort Thunder, The Simpsons, The Muppets, R. Crumb, and Frog and Toad kids books. / MF
[deleted] Normal_Now. We were big fans. Last October he posted that he was giving up his account. Ironically, because he was being harassed by "pepe heads," in his own words. He was "interviewing" all the potential buyers of the account. And when I told him what we were interested in doing with it, he thought it was an appropriate use of the account. You can find him now at Respectful_0. We're going to make an in-memorium website with all of his old tweets.

2020.09.26 21:24 Malourbas Bolt Breakdown: 2020 Week 2 vs KC

Every week I plan to share with you guys my thoughts on the game, position by position. If you have any suggestions on how I can make this series any better please let me know!
Some stats from this game:
KC: Fewest 1st half points since 2018 AFCCG vs NE
LAC: 300+ Total YDS in 1st half (2nd time in last 37 games)
Mahomes: 60 pass yds in 1st half (lowest of career)
I love Tony Romo.

Offense

QB
All of us on the first play. I mean, wow. What a game. It’s been said a thousand times but this was the best Chargers loss I’ve ever seen and that is primarily due to Mr. Justin Herbert. He can throw, he can run, he can take hits, and he can do it all with a smile on his face. To go down the field in your first NFL snaps against the defending champions and run it in yourself for a touchdown has to be one of the most exhilarating things a person can feel. It wasn’t a perfect game, but the raw talent and high intelligence he possesses were obvious. His decision making in particular was much better than I expected, a few mistakes notwithstanding. Probably just adrenaline, but he overthrew a few open receivers early and barely missed Henry on 4th and 5 in the first quarter that would’ve been a highlight reel throw and catch right over two DBs. Tony Romo was gushing about the TD pass, and even on replay it’s a treat to watch. Hope to see more of that. His poise in the 2 minute drill before halftime was impressive, although there were a couple passes he should’ve just thrown away to save time rather than short throws over the middle. The sack he took early in the 3rd was a pretty bad one, he had all the time in the world to throw it away or even dump off to a wide open Nabers but it seemed like it took too long for him to take his eyes off the downfield receivers. But hey, right after that Herbert converted the 3rd down with that incredible throw downfield to Keenan. That was a prime Rivers level throw, just a beautiful ball with pressure in his face. Seeing a Chargers QB run a speed option play is just bizarre, but oh so exciting. And it worked well both times. We all know what happened on the INT. I’m hesitant to even call it a “rookie mistake” because even in college most QBs know not to make that throw. But he’ll clean that up. Easton Stick earned his roster spot as an elite OT coin flipper.
RB
This game was some vintage Ekeler, after last week where he looked a little rusty. Breaking tackles, running great routes, and turning on the jets as soon as he gets the ball. Acceleration is one of his best traits that rarely is talked about. His toughness was really on display this game too, he took some shots. The offense looks so much better when he’s catching the ball. Anthony Lynn deserves a lot of credit for drafting Joshua Kelley. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pick, but he looks like he is gonna be a real difference maker. Another very good game from him. His pass protection needs work. The run game was the key to this almost-win.
WR
I said it last week and I’ll say it again: Keenan Allen is an elite blocker. He is so important to our run game. On the other hand, while I like what I’ve seen so far from Guyton, his blocking needs a lot of work. There’s really not much else to say about Keenan, he’s so good. Mike Williams though, he needs to take a step forward to really be worthy of that draft selection. He doesn’t really get open, and if he’s going to try to make a living being a one trick pony then he needs to get better at that one trick. Herbert wasn’t looking his way all that much. The OT curl route on third down would’ve helped his QB if he’d ran a yard or two deeper although it wasn’t a great throw. Reed got his first offensive touch on an 8 yard jet sweep, looking forward to seeing more of that. Snaps for Hill but no touches.
TE
I think we’re going to be talking about the Herbert-Henry connection for years to come. They seemed to be on the same page more than Herbert and any of the WRs. Henry had multiple clutch third downs in this game as well as plenty of great blocks. He is a top tier tight end. Virgil Green seems to be a little better this year, after what was a down year for him last year. He had some key blocks. Anderson also impressed me again with some good blocks.
OL
The Chiefs pass rush after Frank Clark went out was pretty lackluster, but it’s still good to see our OL play well against lesser competition. Not to speak ill of Chris Jones who is still a great player, but we were able to devote resources to stopping him. Feeney had a solid game against him, with a lot of help. Lamp pulled on some plays and looked really athletic. He seems to be getting more confident. Turner whiffed a block badly on a 3rd and 2 run in the first quarter that forced us to punt. He also got bull rushed right into Herbert by Jones on the play that Herbert knocked out the LB. He was the worst OL for the Chargers in that game, and he wasn’t even that bad. I was impressed with Pipkins in relief of Bulaga, his biggest problem last year was speed rushers and he did well against Frank Clark on Sunday before he went out. Tevi had one really bad play where he got shoved down by Clark and then grabbed his ankle while on the ground, drawing a holding penalty on 2nd and goal. Other than that, he had an excellent game again. We might actually have a legit left tackle. St Louis got a few snaps at the end when Turner got hurt, and Chris Jones worked him a couple times.

Defense

DL
The Chiefs really didn’t get their run game going and Joseph was a huge part of that, he was eating double teams all game. And not only that, but his ability (and willingness) to chase down runners at his size is incredible. Bosa is probably the frontrunner for DPOY, and congrats to him for finally sacking Mahomes. He’s still not 100%. Insane. This was another awesome game in the Jerry Tillery breakout season. Consistent interior pressure is going to help this defense so much. Rochell is underrated, he doesn’t get a ton of snaps but he doesn’t get shoved around against the run and gets pressure against the pass. He is honestly one of Telesco’s best draft picks ever. Nwosu had a good heads up play sniffing out a screen. In fact the Chiefs tried multiple screens this game and they got blown up each time. Looking forward to seeing Nwosu play a lot more snaps on Sunday. I’m not really sure what’s going on with Ingram, both weeks now I have not been blown away by his effort. It’s a heavy contrast to Bosa on the other side who goes hard every single play. He’s still a good player but he could be having a bigger impact. I love the aggressiveness of our Dline but they really need to clean up the penalties. The 3rd and 8 in OT seemed like the most obvious place in the world for a hard count, and Ingram still fell for it. Bosa had some bad ones as well.
LB
Some of the same issues for Murray as last week, where he overpursued on some run plays and then got beat. He also got beat badly by Mahomes on a 3rd and long scramble in the 2nd quarter. The deflection on 2nd and 20 in the 4th was a great play. His absolute floor seems like it will be at least a decent longtime starter. Kyzir White was struggling to get off blocks, but he still had a pretty good game. His play recognition is still a little slow but the physical tools are all there. It would be great if he can continue his development into a full time starter. Watching Perryman’s hit on Watkins again in real time, there’s absolutely no reason that would be penalized. Don’t let Chiefs fans tell you otherwise.
CB
I honestly don’t think there is a harder receiver in the NFL to cover than Tyreek Hill, but Michael Davis did a great job. Minus the TD (which was Harris), Hill caught 4 passes for 44 yards on 10 targets. That’s not easy to do. He also ripped a ball out of Watkins’ hands on a potential catch (almost a fumble). Davis did miss a few tackles in this game. That needs some work. The fact that he can do well covering a guy like Hill and also turn around and cover a guy like Kelce on the next play is pretty impressive. Hopefully he takes a big leap this year. Harris has been incredible so far this season. He was in coverage on the Hill TD but honestly he played it pretty well, it’s so hard to beat a throw like that. Sometimes you just have to give credit to the opponent. Casey had a much better game than week 1. He still doesn’t look like he’s at his peaks of last year but it’s early.
S
Adderley’s tackling has been a little concerning, but he did make a nice play on Hill that saved a would-be touchdown (also if not for a holding penalty). He missed one later on Hardman. His deep coverage seems solid and Mahomes didn’t seem to be going after him or Jenkins all that much, which is a good sign. Their communication mistakes from last week seem to be getting cleaned up. I’m still not totally sure who blew the assignment on the Kelce TD. Jenkins was the closest person to him but he was also watching the RB in the flat, so I don’t think it was him. Might’ve been Casey. King again played really well when he was on the field. I agree with him that he should be getting more playing time and he should get his wish if Jenkins isn’t healthy on Sunday.

Special Teams

We blocked a kick??? This truly was a special day. Tillery is an impact player. This was one of Ty Long’s best games and his OT punt was maybe the best of his career. Desmond King was lined up as the rightmost lineman on a punt and he got embarrassed by a Chief who came through and got a hand on the punt. Luckily the ball took a really favorable bounce and got us an extra dozen yards. Reed made a pretty questionable decision to run a kickoff out 5 yards deep in the end zone. I’m confident he’s going to take one of these to the house this year. Only one ST penalty this week which is a big improvement. Badgley is no Harrison Butker, but it’s so nice to have a kicker we can be confident in.

In general, most things which progress at a linear rate feel better if you interpolate them smoothly with something. Here are my most commonly used interpolators, in C# syntax but they can easily be adapted to your own syntax.

SmoothStart

SmoothStart works because for x < 0.5, the delta between f(x)'s is less than that of a linear function. after x > 0.5, the delta is larger than a linear function. Test this yourself: (0.3 * 0.3) - (0.2 * 0.2) < 1, and (0.6 * 0.6) - (0.5 * 0.5) > 1. If you're a nerd, prove this with calculus (d/dx x^2)

SmoothStop

This is actually essentially the same as SmoothStop, but applies a horizontal transformation to it. This is basically Smoothstop shifted to the right on the graph by 1. It can also be expressed (1 - x)^2
public static double SmoothStop2(double In) { var Flip = (1f - In); return (Flip * Flip); }

SmoothStart3

This is the same principle as SmoothStart, but uses the cubic function. the delta between each f(x) is less than the linear function for all x < 1/3. You can prove this with calculus: find the x value for which the derivative of x^3 = 1
public static double SmoothStart3(double In) { return In * In * In; }

SmoothStop3

Because x^3 is not parabolic, unlike SmoothStop, this is both a horizontal transformation AND an inversion. Show this to yourself on a graphic calculator or other tool: first show the graph of x^3, then do (-x)^3, and finally show the graph of SmoothStop3 by creating the graph for (1-x)^3. You will watch the graph transform before your own eyes!

FlatSineCurve

Credit to Will Jagy on StackExchange
Sometimes you want something to increase smoothly, hang in the air for a bit, and then decrease. This is a function which produces a function for a flat sine curve. The higher your b value, the flatter your plateau. I like to use this for UI elements - you can use this function to set the opacity, and the element will fade in, sit for a few seconds, and then fade out. Or you can set the y coordinate of the UI element using this. it will smoothly scroll in, sit for a few seconds in the same position, and then scroll out.

b = 2
b = 4
b = 16
public static Func FlatSineCurve(double b = 4) => In => Math.Sqrt( (1 + (b * b)) / (1 + (b * b) * (Math.Sin(In * Math.PI) * Math.Sin(In * Math.PI))) ) * Math.Sin(In * Math.PI);
This can be written with the following formal notation:
https://i.redd.it/dalqueqhijp51.gif
This can be micro optimized, as well. You could compute the sin functions once as a variable and then multiply them. You could even implement a lookup table for 1 + (b * b) for the most common values for b though I'm not sure if that would do much for you. You could also implement a FlatCosineCurve or FlatSineCurveOut by simply doing 1 - FlatSineCurve(b)(x) if you wanted.

Hope these are useful to you! Do you see anything that can be improved? Do you have any functions that you commonly use that I didn't include here? Let me know here!

In general, most things which progress at a linear rate feel better if you interpolate them smoothly with something. Here are my most commonly used interpolators, in C# syntax but they can easily be adapted to your own syntax.
Note: These operate with a domain of [0-1] and a range of [0-1]. Any input outside of [0-1] may produce unexpected results

2020.09.26 16:38 nedragrevev I want to eat your pancreas English Subtitles

This'll probably be unseen but nowhere else to post this, and I spent quite a lot of time working on subbing this. It needed full translation work and a fair amount of typesetting as well (I have fully translated and subbed Patema Inverted and Nausicaa but those didn't require any typesetting).
Subs can be found on my GitHub page here. I only provide sub files, fonts and some cover pictures. Other subs (series and movies) which I worked on can be found here (and more will be added if I get the time to go through my BD collection).
Started with PAR. Changed everything, but they had some good translations and a sign or two that I just copied over.
Encode: My own from the AU Madman BD. Should sync up with other Western releases (the Japanese release differs at the end).
Translation: Very, very carefully checked and translated the Japanese for every single line. Had the benefit of considering the official stuff and the dub, but basically made my own translation as these other translations each had their issues. This is where all the time went.
Three different versions (all signs/typesetting have been changed to suit):
  1. Honorifics
  2. Western naming, no honorifics
  3. Signs and song which I specifically worked to match the dub (the diary entries and various text messages).
Typesetting: I don't settle for anything less than realistic. Most of the diary was typeset. Some signs translated and typeset that neither PAR nor the official subs bothered with. To be honest, I'd prefer these subs to be judged on the translation because that's where pretty much all the time went but these screenshots should show how meticulous I try to be (some spoilers):
Matched the official English postecovers. No font existed so this is a vector.
The first time we see the diary. None of this is made up, basically the whole page is translated.
https://preview.redd.it/mnmuwr9jyhp51.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=c66cdb13eedec9f723882395f3f862ae56145e7e
The blur is not perfect but I did that because this only has about 1 second of onscreen time.
Vectored all of Sakura's emoji's and simulated the subpixel rendering where applicable. (This is the honorifics version, hence the naming order)
More text.
More subpixel simulation (the signs and songs only version changes matches what Sakura says in the English dub)
The left page isn't important. She's simply talking about starting second year at high school and moving into the same class as Kyoko and a few others, and it doesn't get enough screen time to read both pages anyway.
An easy two pager.
Lots of other signs. These are just a preview.
Songs: Made some translation adjustments but PAR did a pretty good job here. No karaoke (too much going on during the songs that it would be distracting). But I did match the credit style.
OP Song Lyrics Style
Timing: Every line manually timed with care and thought to give the best viewing experience. I'm pretty particular about timing so these should present well.
That's it.

2020.09.26 11:56 earwig2000 Is it possible to create moving cloud configs for kerbin, eve, laythe, and jool?

I feel like having a 10 minute GIF for clouds instead of 1 single texture would be extremely cool, however it would be a massive file, several gigabytes each, and would cause the game to lag, but those with op gaming pc's and really good internet, is this even possible?

My face/voice/sales pitch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBgK3ANuX54
UPDATE - Bigger, Longer & Uncut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biRSpc8Uzs8
Hey Reddit!
So I was single for a long time and then I found someone I thought was really special; long story short she monumentally let me down, and now I feel like I'm less able to cope with the lack of intimacy than I used to be. I want to feel close to someone, to talk to someone about anything and everything, to snuggle (maybe even kiss) and just feel... the warmth of human contact, y'know? I could be looking for a relationship but by this point I have learned that loyalty is too much to ask. So I guess the ideal would be a sort of cuddle-buddy situation? Someone I can care about and who can care about me, someone I can lie on the grass and snuggle or make out with... is that a thing? A friend with making out?... Anyway, you probably get the gist of what I'm looking for: intimacy, closeness, warmth.
About me: I have a kind of slim/average build, I was into weightlifting for a while but I guess my physique never got the memo. You can see a gif of me pre-beard on my page actually... *waits for you to open another tab, check me out, and come back*... I am an occasional poet, occasional guitar student, I'm a lifelong gamer and a comedy buff. I like quiz shows and philosophy, I like mythology, I have a labrador, I think the most important quality a person can have is kindness, I don't have a 'type' and like to judge everyone on their own merits, I don't usually drink alcohol and I am a vegetarian. Oh, and recently I've been getting into yoga and meditation in a big way.
SO! Don't be afraid to send me a message, I'm fine with taking the time to get to know someone, and I'm very open-minded.
TL;DR I'm down to snuggle and stuff.

2020.09.26 10:37 kuraeko Unpopular opinion? on 'Epic' fashion items

Hey everyone!
Ok, this is probably an unpopular opinion LMAO ... but I felt like sharing my thoughts, and just randomly wanted to ask anyway–
Does anyone else think Epic (and/or Super Epic) fashion items are actually kinda... un-epic? Not in terms of aesthetics, that's subjective... but more to do with its features and functionality ?
So, several reasons for me... • Your avatar can only wear ONE Epic item at a single time, when technically all epic items all have different actions and animations? —> But other rarity level items can be added or multi-layered, e.g. auras (animated). Like if I want my avatar to be a flying fairy with huge wings (epic item) while doing air acrobatics with my lightsaber (epic item) today then allow me to LOL!
• Also, in the fashion closet inventory, you know when you're changing your avatar's outfit... whatever items (and/or items' level of rarity) were worn previously gets auto replaced when you click on a different selected item (and/or of rarity), right ? —> "don't like this super rare aura and normal dress? just tap to choose a different aura and dress" that's pretty normal like with any other games that has customisation yeah
You'd think the same would apply for Epic items too, but LP doesn't think so... bc every time you make an avatar outfit change– the "transitioning" FROM wearing one epic item and then selecting another (one) different epic item; you are blocked first from doing so, bc that pop-up box appears with THIS (exact quote):
An item with the same action is already in use. Please remove it first before trying it again
...ummm what SAME action?? just replace it like with any other item then... it's so annoying, having that show every single time. —> LIKE, what next?
"The hairstyle with the same function (i.e. placement to cover on top of head) is currently in use. Please remove it first before trying it again"... ?? ? imagine getting a pop-up every single time you want to change something like shoes fck kSkSKSKSKS
• And when it comes to taking an avatar picture in your diary– the process part of selecting background/ avatar poses, then clicking the post button to finally upload it, sharing for others to see. When you click on the post (upload) button—> what it technically does is capturing a time still of whatever is visible within the frame at the exact time that button was clicked– e.g. "oh crap, gotta take it again... the aura lights and hovering hearts flashed off in the final upload." lol i can't be the only one that's noticed and is very picky about it here, right?
– AGAIN, the epic items don't move or animate at all... but other rarity items like auras are moving wild while flashing (that it sometimes gets cut off the pic frame too), plus characters are climbing/ moving around and all in real-time too in the post process ??
What's the point in having an Epic item if you can't display or capture an action still of how it works in your diary? so much for epic... e.g. spiderman suit epic item: its action is jumping shooting webs/ body hanging and swinging upside down. (tbh, it'd be cool if there were settings to do a gif or video but let's not go there rn.)
So yeah, I don't know if you all agree or disagree, but honestly that's what makes it un-epic for me LOL
TL;DR: Epic/super epic fashion items aren't that epic in my opinion, and my reasons why I think so are written above (hopefully it all made sense tbh). What do you all think? Agree or disagree?
Edit: ...i'm still terrible at reddit formatting. and ooops sorry for the rather longer than expected long-winded rant(?)/ post omg :(

2020.09.26 07:52 joker_town Need help finding scps

Been trying to find 3 scps. From what I remember they are a book which details hypothetical events in which an scp becomes neutralised, an scp which has a gif that shows a room being filled with gore, and an scp set in an alternate universe where all the scps eventually fight each other in a battle royale
Edit: To be more specific, I'll list down the traits I remember of the SCPs. It's been 2 years since I read SCP consistently, so forgive my lack of substantial details or any inaccuracies in the details provided.
(i) This SCP allows the Foundation to write down a method through which an SCP is neutralised. The book subsequently details an event(s) that follow after neutralisation, with the events mostly being disastrous in nature.
(ii) This SCP is one of jumpscare horror. In the article itself, there is a camera feed which shows a room. The room is an empty and non-anomalous appearing containment chamber which from time to time will turn red and bloody with gore before going back to its regular state. It is one of the first SCPs I read and I would like to re-read it.
(iii) This SCP can be summed up as a battle royale. I don't remember much, but it culminated a boy turning into a huge monstrous anomaly which then proceeded to right what I believe was SCP 2845 and SCP 001 (the angel). It's basically one huge facility where all SCPs are kept in a single facility.

2020.09.26 06:44 Gusmanak Sep. 29th Release Date for Apoc 2 "Alpha v2.0" Update

After months of delay, numerous unforeseen performance bottlenecks, and nearly a dozen internal mass tests, we have finally solved the most prominent of the critical issues that resulted in such inconsistent gameplay. Improving the latency (ping) and fixing memory leaks were most important. We never anticipated it would be so difficult to overcome these obstacles, but we're finally ready to release the update to the wider playerbase, and tackle any new issues that arise from there.

This Tuesday, September 29th, at 5:00 pm central time, the long-awaited update will be released. The paid access price will drop from 300 Robux, to 200 Robux once the update is made available.

What will "Alpha v2.0" include? A little bit of everything.

This update will bring a ton of back-end fixes and optimizations for just about every system - increasing performance and stability across the board. There are a handful of tweaks, quality of life improvements, and new features, as well as a significant amount of new content.

The Map

The new "smuggler" island is being added for this update. It features a couple of major locations including a shoddy town and the smuggler airstrip. There's also a sprawling mineshaft, an abandoned hot springs motel, and a few smaller locations such as a plane crash, and an encampment.
Volcano island has been expanded considerably. A new farm town, and sand dunes were added. The volcano itself has been redone entirely. The area is a lot more rugged, and it's harder to navigate while maintaining a clear line-of-sight around you. A small research station was also added across from the firewatch tower.
Monastery island has been expanded and reworked. Many new residential structures were added here and on the volcano island. The old monastery was replaced with a small abandoned chapel, at least until we can create a new location that fits the world a bit better. Scattered throughout the forest are tree-stands and small campsites. These can also be found elsewhere on the map.
The main island's farm area (and all other farms) were overhauled. Players will now see hayfields, pastures, and orchards with varying terrain - instead of the flat rectangular fields we had previously. Fencing will also line these new farm areas, and perhaps in the future we can use them to test out destructibility. Besides the farms, there's a few locations and changes to the map. A new community pool was added outside Ashland. The power plant was improved with a brand new office building and maintenance shed, as well as a back entrance. The airport parking lot has been improved, and numerous wrecked vehicles have been added, which can be looted for various supplies. You'll find these lootable vehicles wrecks all over the map as well!

New Items

A variety of new consumable items have been added for this update. Mushy bags of vegetables will now spawn in freezers, in case you're desperate for food. Fridges will have a chance of spawning with new perishable items, like cheese and cake. Beans were finally added, which has been a long time coming. There's also new energy drink and sports drink items, which provide thirst and also act as a weak stamina booster.
Ammo containers are being changed dramatically in this update. Not only are the current ammo containers having their capacity reduced, but we are adding a selection of new containers that offer an increased capacity. These containers will be more efficient than the old default ammo boxes, and they won't spawn with much ammo to begin with - but if you're lucky enough to find one, they're very much worth holding on to.

New Ammo Mechanics and Changes

The current default ammo boxes are having their max capacity changed. 7.62mm NATO, 7.62mm Springfield, and 7.62mm Rimmed will now only carry 20 rounds max instead of 50. 5.56mm NATO, 5.45mm Soviet, and 7.62mm Soviet may only carry 30 rounds instead of 50. All other ammo types will not be changed. Besides the ammo boxes, extended magazines are being removed in this update. All "drum" magazines except the Thompson's will be removed, and any "extended" magazines except the AK's 40-round magazine will be removed. The 5.56mm NATO 30-round magazine is not extended, so it is staying. (for some reason people assume it counts as "extended" but it doesn't) We are removing these magazines to assess the other relevant changes, such as ammo transfering, without interference.
Ammunition will now take time to transfer from one container to another, or to/from magazines. There are some important aspects to note in regard to this process. First, there are three speeds at which ammo is transferred. Handgun/SMG magazines transfer ammo the fastest. (three rounds every half-second) Machine Gun boxes (M1919, M249, M60, PKM) transfer ammo the slowest. (one round every half-second) Assault rifle or long-gun magazines transfer ammo at a moderate rate. (two rounds every half-second) Second, the transfer rate is determined by the slowest container. So if you are using an M249 LMG box to store ammo, and you want to reload your 5.56mm NATO magazines from that box, you will do so at the slowest rate - but transferring ammo from a standard 5.56mm NATO ammo box into your 5.56mm magazines will be done at a moderate rate, instead of the slowest. Third, and probably most importantly, you cannot transfer ammo between containers or magazines unless you have your inventory open. If you close the inventory while transferring ammo, the process will be stopped. Overall, this is a huge shift for the game, and we're looking forward to see how players adjust their strategies.

Firearms and Recoil

You may have heard that recoil is being changed for this update, but that would be an understatement. The recoil system has been completely re-done from scratch, and every single firearm was rebalanced as a result. The new system is a hybrid of our second recoil iteration (from two years ago) and our latest recoil iteration that players are most familiar with. Essentially players will need to pull down on their mouse to some extent, in order to fight the barrel-rise of the firearm. Unlike the second iteration, there are new caps and parameters that make this system feel more natural, and require more skill in order to be proficient. Every firearm feels different, so every firearm will require some time to learn, especially if you want to use full-auto or quickly land your shots at long range in semi-auto. For the most part, you should not expect to annihilate targets while aiming down sights and holding the mouse button. Here is a quick demonstration with the M16A1. On another note, unrelated to recoil, this clip also demonstrates a new feature where clicking or holding right mouse button while in third person will instantly transition you into first person, and aiming down sights. You can no longer hold RMB and "zoom in" while still in third person.
Scoped rifles and other long-range optics will now "sway" while aiming down sights. Here's a brief demonstration with the Model 788. There is no way to stop this sway, except to counter it with your mouse movement. We don't plan on adding a way to "hold your breath" or anything like that. However, we will make this sway effect stronger or weaker depending on the optic or firearm, and we may implement more than one sway "pattern" that could be learned by players. This is highly experimental, but we're hoping it will add some interest to sniper rifles especially. Also, despite rumors, we are not changing any firearm damage for this update - but we will see how all of this goes and take it from there.
Oh, and we're doubling the resolution of weapon skin textures - so they should be much less pixelated in this update!

In-Combat System, Groups, and Player Spawning

When a player is shot at, or vice-versa, a circular "combat zone" is generated around you and nearby group members. There are some rules as to how this works and how it is triggered, but essentially you will be presented with a five-minute log-off timer unless you leave the combat zone. The zone is displayed on your map. If you are re-engaged before you enter the zone, a new zone will be generated and the timer will reset. This should prevent someone from hiding behind a rock and leaving the game without finishing a fight. On another note, your group member locations will no longer be displayed on the map. You will still be able to see your own location, but your friends will not show up. Of course if a group member is nearby you, you will still see their tag/name - but if you spawn across the map from eachother, you will have to communicate in order to meet up.
The player spawn system has been reworked, and new checks have been added to prevent players from running back to their corpses. It is not our intention for a group fight to go on forever, so many changes have been implemented to make death more meaningful. A lot of player spawn locations have been moved or deleted, too. For example, there are no spawn locations near Ashland anymore, or along any of the islands' inner shorelines. Also spawn locations have been added to the new smuggler island, monastery island, and volcano island. Unfortunately we aren't able to increase the player-cap at this time, so for now we expect players to be a lot more spread out as a result of these changes.

Infected

The infected have received many performance improvements that will prevent them from unfairly landing hits, and not take damage in high latency situations. Infected may not be very good at pathfinding currently, but they should no longer be unpredictably laggy when chasing you. Beyond this, the greatest change to infected is their new line-of-sight detection. It should now be possible to avoid them if they're looking the wrong way. However, they will react if they hear you stabbing their buddy, and they're hear you sprinting past them. Oh, and infected will spawn with bloody/ripped clothing too! There's still a lot of work to do, but we hope this is a big step in the right direction for infected.

Settings and Quality of Life changes

Players will have a wide variety of new settings available to them. You can disable controls UI, adjust individual sound effect volume, and even modify your hipfire crosshair color. The hotbar has been improved to be smarter, and easier to use - but we will need feedback in order to find any bugs and make additional improvements. As for the inventory, you can now simply left click on items to transfer them to or from containers. The Shift-Click functionality can be preserved via the settings menu, if you wish. In addition to this simplified quick-transfer control, items will now be moved to the top-most container you have open in the Vicinity window. This means you can quickly move items into vehicle storage instead of dragging them. (they won't drop on the ground if you have a container open)

Other Content

New melee weapon sound effects, vehicle engine effects, and horns, have been added for this update! We are in the process of implementing sirens as well, but they may be pretty simple (no flashing lights) for now. Over 40 new articles of clothing are being added, including hip waders, a blue police uniform, cargo pants, and many civilian items that should improve variety dramatically!

Closing

There's a lot of stuff I skipped over, but this post is fairly long as it is! I hope this gave you some insight into the big "Alpha v2.0" update that you've been waiting so long for. Remember, we're releasing the update on Tuesday, September 29th, at 5:00 pm central time. The price will be reduced to 200 Robux! I am very exciting to hear your feedback, and I'm even more excited to move on to implement dynamic lighting, vehicle upgrades, the powergrid system, and the prison island! Stay tuned for more info, and thank you so much for your patience. I'll see you in the new update!

If you saw my last post you know I'm a big fan of Taylor Swift. Something she always said when talking about her 2014 album, '1989', was that she set out to make it cohesive.
I've always assumed a cohesive album was one that featured tracks which sounded similar instrumentally, melodically and with similar production quality. However, '1989' doesn't strike me as an album which does this. While three of the lead singles feature similar sounding snares and kicks, the rest is really quite wild, jumping from electronic to dance to dream pop.
Regardless, it's still one of my favourite albums, but I wanted to know what anyone else thought about this. What makes a cohesive album to you and should a good album be cohesive?

2020.09.26 02:08 tkeycoin TkeyNet: What’s new?

TkeyNet: What’s new?

https://i.redd.it/zyuf3vxvvdp51.gif
“The TkeyNet development team is surprising to us” — recently such a quote came from our lips. Why would that be?

TkeyNet: Instant transactions

Now transactions in the TkeyNet network are instant. You won’t even notice how the TKEY delivers to the recipient. For example, when you send a payment from card to card, and after a few seconds, the money is in the recipient’s possession. Despite the fast speed of transactions, the system has not only preserved its security properties but also strengthened them and still works on the blockchain.
“The chain of information a store on every computer in the network. The addition of information occurs by using cryptographic functions, allowing you to identify the information for any period. When a new data block adds to the TkeyNet network, the integrity of all previous information confirm by the entire TkeyNet, and each node checks its integrity.”

Financial marketplace

https://preview.redd.it/4j6y85zxvdp51.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=1ef221053e4e90b08a9f67e6eef220b74bc94b0f
In early September, we completed work on one of the main functions of the system: “The Financial Module Of The Marketplace.”

What is it for, and how does the “Financial Marketplace module” work?

TkeyNet combines various assets in a single system, creating instant access to liquidity. Digital exchanges connect to TkeyNet and provide assets for exchange: BTC, USDT, ETH, and others. For example, Kraken connects to TkeyNet and provides digital assets: ETH, ETC. Binance: USD, BTC. Bitfinex: USDT, EOS, etc. Exchanges can provide any assets that trade on their platforms.
The blockchain acts as a Registrar of financial transactions. Accounts, balances, and orders store in a distributed registry TkeyNet, and copies of data to distribute across network TkeyNet nodes. Payment routing is implemented in the TkeyNet system, which allows you to track not only balances but also distribute transactions without the participation of any party.
The user, in turn, has quick access to transactions with digital currencies, regardless of the blockchain used: Bitcoin, Ethereum, EOS, or any other, transactions are recorded in TkeyNet, and transactions are processed instantly.
“The task of the platform is to automate the interaction of the parties and ensure the convenience of performing operations. — This is the core element of a trusted environment.”
In addition to digital assets, the “Financial Marketplace module” includes working with Fiat currencies, stocks, bonds, as well as raw materials: oil, gas, diamonds, etc. — This means that payment systems, banks, currency exchanges, commodity exchanges, and other financial market participants, are also connected to the TkeyNet blockchain.

Payments between companies in a few seconds

https://preview.redd.it/v84fizszvdp51.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e501b06661b2a960fe75abe07a1aba5177db620d
Companies can make payments in seconds, not days. TkeyNet can seriously mitigate the adverse risks of extraterritorial sanctions against the financial system of the countries if such follow. Also, the ability to conduct internal and cross-border transfers through an independent financial channel directly to the counterparty at high-speed is beneficial to business and the state from any point of view.
Each user will be able to make quick transfers to counterparty wallets, exchange digital currency for another or fiat money at the current exchange rate.

What else is interesting? — Applications

Developers can connect to TkeyNet and get access to a large-scale pool of liquidity: digital currencies, stocks, precious metals, etc.
This solution not only reduces development costs but also allows you to get access to the best prices and fast exchanges. You can create any financial application, regardless of the market usage: a cryptocurrency, or financial markets.
Developers can create a digital Bank or exchange, fast connect the app, and TkeyNet using the API.
“By working with partners around the world, we can significantly increase our market share in this business, providing our partners with ready-made tools without risks.”
And also regardless of the applications that will be created by partner developers. The company will provide its interfaces that will provide access to various types of assets — digital currencies: BTC, USDT, ETH, etc.; Fiat currencies: euros, dollars, pounds, etc.; securities and commodity assets.

https://preview.redd.it/23whmnm1wdp51.png?width=679&format=png&auto=webp&s=52bf10bf43268f835cff981a110d41528b838a89
Anywhere in the world, at any time, the system user will have access to the desired currency without having to exchange one for another. Also, when implementing the application for NFC payments, it will become even easier to use the system. However, even with the availability of several types of currencies, such as the pound, dollar, and euro, it is easy to make payments abroad.
“According to the World Bank, more than 1.7 billion adults are still not covered by banking services, but two-thirds of them have a mobile phone that can help them access financial services. — This tells us one thing: the traditional banking approach is exceptionally inefficient. Lack of infrastructure: a network of ATMs, fees and deposits, a network of cashiers, and internal money transfer programs are just some named obstacles to creating a real banking experience.”
Imagine that in one app you have access to Apple shares, Tesla shares, gold, precious metals, rubles, dollars, and even oil if you want. TkeyNet — makes this possible.
TkeyNet is an industrial solution designed for companies and users at the same time. Since payments in the system are very fast, a person can store and send money in any asset they want. This flexibility creates an open market, which is necessary at present.

Postscript

TkeyNet back-end — completed. Currently, we are actively working on the front-end side. Regardless of working on the front-end side, the TkeyNet system is tested on an ongoing basis.

2020.09.25 22:15 fennelanddreams [Aldi] The Great Pumpkin Hoarder Debacle

What is Aldi?
Aldi is a German grocery store chain with locations internationally which specializes in discount groceries and supplies. It's frequently known for selling rebadged products i.e. products made in the same factories as products from other, higher end stores but under a different brand name. Food from Aldi is, for the most part, pretty good with the occasional not-so-good knock-offs sneaking into stores. Aldi manages to keep prices low by employing fewer workers, using cheaper spaces, and by rebadging.
The Aisle of Shame?
It's surprisingly not a niche fanfic thing. The name is a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but not as much as you'd expect. Aldi distinguishes itself from other stores by having a so called "Aisle of Shame" located in the middle of the store where they sell Aldi Finds. The finds can be anything, from plants to fancy foods to clothing, but they're always limited availability. Each week, either on a Sunday or a Wednesday depending on the local distribution center, new finds are sent out to the stores where the rabid masses can descend upon them. Oftentimes, supplies are heavily limited and stores won't put limits on shopper purchases. If an item is particularly popular, it can sell out within days, or even hours.
OK, So How is a Grocery Store a Hobby?
Aldi already had some measure of popularity, but thanks to the 2020 pandemic, food shortages forcing people to find new stores, and Aldi finds, its cult following has become a full-out fandom. There are Facebook groups, news articles, and even a niche sub-genre of Aldi influencers.
Aldi Finds, in particular, are the heart of a lot of wank. Some Aldi finds are forgotten, but some present such a good deal or are so popular among the Facebook groups/Instagrams that they'll spark a feeding frenzy. People will buy 1 or 2 stacks of them, even the whole store inventory if they like it enough. Often, people will resell what they find, but just as frequently they keep it stocked for themselves. Resellers consider it a fair side hustle, but Aldi fans who don't have the time to go to the store frequently call them out for scalping.
As an example, Aldi candles were recently a wild craze with resellers and other shoppers alike fighting through the FOMO. At some locations, candle sales were even limited to prevent candle over-buying. The /Aldi subreddit, a community that's usually against over-buying discussed it recently here. As it almost always goes, there's of course less drama on /Aldi than the much more turbulent Facebook page.
The Facebook Page. . . and the Pumpkins
It's late September, Halloween decorations are starting to go up, and everyone (including Aldi shoppers) are feeling the autumnal vibes. On one of the large Aldi Facebook pages, people might be feeling that Autumn spirit more than usual.
It started with the pumpkin casserole dishes. Costing only 7 dollars a pumpkin, these dishes quickly became a favorite for the Aldi fanatics out in the world. One intrepid fan purchased 12 pumpkin casserole dishes before stating she had no use for them (she later donated 6 dishes).
Backlash was swift. While many posters offered advice on what OP could make in the casserole dish, many others weren't afraid to ask her why she felt she needed 12 pumpkin dishes when they were in limited supply. Choice quotes from both sides include "They should rename this page the 'Aldi Bullies' page" (from OP), "Use your money on something you will truly use", and, in response to someone saying they wish they had that much disposable income, "try getting a better job and you can afford it." Of course, this post, for all of its controversy, only netted 162 comments. That seemed monumental. . . for the moment.
Return of the Living Pumpkins
Just a few hours later, the real shitstorm stirred and there would be no coming back from it. An important bit of context - there isn't currently a pumpkin shortage, buuut the pumpkin season has been delayed this year, leading to less cans on the shelf right now. A dedicated pumpkin lover on the Facebook page bought every single can of pumpkin at their local Aldi. Now, to my knowledge, canned pumpkin isn't an Aldi Find, but it is in similarly limited supply. After the previous provocation of the casserole dish fiasco, there would be blood for the blood god.
Here are a few choice highlights from the pumpkin wars. People were quick to call out selfishness and just as quick to say "Why don't you go to the store and get the pumpkin yourself?" "Karen" started to get dropped here, there, and everywhere including a call for a new Facebook page. The word Karen would start to appear frequently, actually, before getting banned mid-storm. One conversation even meandered its way from pumpkin hoarding to racial politics, as Facebook posts are wont to do in the most non-toxic, absolutely appropriate way.
Trying to Stem the Wank
Mods stepped up, tried to sweep up as much of the threads as possible, clean up the mess, and most importantly, banned the word Karen. A few people considered this to be an absolute K**ren move, but those comments were swiftly disappeared by mods. Mods weren't able to catch everything. A few more dramatic happenings occurred, including "Is the coronavirus real??? If it isn't, can I get my pumpkin???" However, most of the drama has faded away. Most. Next week pumpkin candles are coming to Aldi and that will definitely go great.
Edit: fixed a link.

2020.09.25 21:35 dts-five Local Slideshow w/MPV (M3U problem)

I have a folder that has a combination of jpg, mov, gif, mpg, png files. It's a big mess of files of various sources. Usually in windows 10, I simply start the picture viewer and click on slideshow. But this screen has a 16:10 resolution and that results in black bars at the top and bottom, which is no good for what we are going for.
So I have been trying to use mpv as an alternative and it appears to kind of work, using this command:
"c:\users\class\Documents\mpv\mpv.exe" --no-keepaspect --playlist="C:\Users\classroom\Pictures\1.2 demo\playlist.m3u" --loop-playlist=inf --fullscreen
That works to display the various files and stretches to take up the entire screen, however it doesn't seem to honor the times that I have specified in the m3u playlist:
#EXTM3U #EXTINF:10,13-100_Nike_Allstar_Bball_Planet_Group-01_original.jpg C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\13-100_Nike_Allstar_Bball_Planet_Group-01_original.jpg #EXTINF:0,Logo_Animation_1920x1080.mpg C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\Logo_Animation_1920x1080.mpg #EXTINF:10,9038-abstract-art-paintings-flowers.jpg C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\9038-abstract-art-paintings-flowers.jpg #EXTINF:29,50028-PLR-Resize_cw_08 [H264].mov C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\50028-PLR-Resize_cw_08 [H264].mov #EXTINF:10,8261841060_b1f1d640a9_o.jpg C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\8261841060_b1f1d640a9_o.jpg #EXTINF:10,8747956708_44842d5588_o.jpg C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\8747956708_44842d5588_o.jpg #EXTINF:208,Cityscape Chicago 4K.mp4 C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\Cityscape Chicago 4K.mp4 #EXTINF:10,global single.gif C:\Users\class\Pictures\1.2 demo\global single.gif
I thought the #EXTINF:10 would specify 10 seconds for the images. Is that incorrect?

It’s one of those Vince McMahon reaction gifs where every single time, his reaction gets more and more ridiculous and funny.
I think the thing he was reacting to was something Star Wars related.
